Chestnut Ridge Academy hosted a graduation ceremony on May 18 at Washington Street church of Christ for the Class of 2019. Graduates were joined by friends and family who celebrated this milestone with them.
Alumni Speaker was Gavin Williams, 2018 Homeschool graduate, Student speaker was Aaron Lyon and Keynote speaker was Andrew Lyon, Vice President of Chestnut Ridge and Licensed Family & Marriage Therapist with Stonebridge Family Counseling. Attendees enjoyed special music by Gracey McKin, graduating senior, and a slide show depicting each of the graduates through their growing up years. Students who walked in the ceremony were Ava Brittain, Aaron Lyon, Gracey McKin, Alex Trejo, Tiffany Williams, and Victoria Williams. Gracey McKin was the first to receive a diploma from Chestnut Ridge Academy. A reception with light refreshments was served afterward. To celebrate National Poetry Month, Chestnut Ridge Academy hosted a Poetry Breakfast at Cornbread’s Kitchen in Fayetteville on Tuesday, April 16. Homeschooled participants of all ages brought poems to share over breakfast and had a chance to author and illustrate an original cinquain poem. Patti Hunt, Homeschool Program Director at Chestnut Ridge, led the writing workshop. She said, “This is a great opportunity for kids to practice their public speaking skills in a fun and safe environment while exploring poetry as an art form.” Seventh grade student, Alden Golden read the poem “Mountains” by Lucy Larcom. While discussing the event afterward he said, "Besides the food, my favorite part was acting out my cinquain as I read it". His cinquain was titled, "Food". Emile Guillot, a 1st grade student, said he enjoyed illustrating his poem. Mrs. Hunt hopes this becomes an annual event for the homeschool community sponsored by Chestnut Ridge.
Chestnut Ridge Academy Board of Directors will host a graduation ceremony for the Class of 2019. This ceremony is open to the community. Any high school senior who is graduating this year may walk in the ceremony. (Please let us know if you are interested in walking by April 3).
