To celebrate National Poetry Month, Chestnut Ridge Academy hosted a Poetry Breakfast at Cornbread’s Kitchen in Fayetteville on Tuesday, April 16. Homeschooled participants of all ages brought poems to share over breakfast and had a chance to author and illustrate an original cinquain poem. Patti Hunt, Homeschool Program Director at Chestnut Ridge, led the writing workshop. She said, “This is a great opportunity for kids to practice their public speaking skills in a fun and safe environment while exploring poetry as an art form.” Seventh grade student, Alden Golden read the poem “Mountains” by Lucy Larcom. While discussing the event afterward he said, "Besides the food, my favorite part was acting out my cinquain as I read it". His cinquain was titled, "Food". Emile Guillot, a 1st grade student, said he enjoyed illustrating his poem. Mrs. Hunt hopes this becomes an annual event for the homeschool community sponsored by Chestnut Ridge.
