The following is a listing of high school co-op classes that have spaces available. Classes meet weekly in Fayetteville.

Unless otherwise noted, class fees are for the year. 

High School (9th – 12th grade)- Algebra I
Curriculum: Math-U-See
Grade: 8th-12th grade
High School Credit- 1.0 Algebra 1
Cost: $65 and includes workbook and weekly online homework assistance
Description: Many homeschool families struggle with a new math concept ~ Algebra! As this content is the true core of the higher math concepts, it is important to have a grasp of Algebra in a functional manner- as these concepts will continue to be explored throughout the students’ math experience. Offered here is a 1.0 high school credit class complete with in class instruction with weekly concept quizzes, as well as an optional weekly homework assistance via Zoom, for their math needs. Major Concepts and Skills Include: Graphing linear equations and inequalities, describing linear equations in slope-intercept and standard form, solving systems of equations using graphing, substitution, and elimination, expanding understanding of exponents, solving basic quadratic equations with factoring, using unit multipliers to convert between units of measure.
 
 
High School (9th – 12th grade) – Algebra II

Graduation Requirement Met: One High School Math Credit
Course Description:  Year-long course is designed to meet the standards for Algebra II including topic concentrations on exponential and logarithmic equations, matrices, functions, sequences, complex numbers, trigonometry, quadratic equations, vectors, polynomials and probability.  Classes meet in person. Weekly practice is a component of the class. Non-Phone Calculator is required. ONLINE OPTIONS MAY BE ADDED.

High School (9th – 12th Grade) – Creative Writing w/Grammar
Fee: $15
This class will help hone students’ grammar and composition skills, and will help them become familiar with creative writing.

High School (10th – 12th Grade) - Literature
Fee: $20 
Students will need a personal email address and internet access to take this class. We will be exploring a variety of literary genres to help students as they prepare for college.  Students should be prepared to analyze pieces of literature and compose essays. There is no specific textbook to purchase. While we will meet in person on Thursdays at Co-op, students should be prepared to have assignments due anytime during the week.  
 
High School (9th – 12th Grade) – Life Science with Lab: Chemistry and Biology Building Blocks
Graduation Requirement Met: One High School Science with Lab Credit

Course Description: Year-long course presented as a survey of High School Science. Course is designed to support further studies in nursing and medical science, biologies, materials science and chemistry, biotechnology, forensics, veterinary science, and others.  A lab component will require some at home experiments (safety approved). Course lab topics include: extracting for medical botany, molecules of metabolism, biochemistry, clinical microbes of pathology, physiology, forensics, nutrition, biotechnology and genetics. Reading and preparations outside of class and lab will be a weekly component.
 
High School (9th – 12th Grade) – Forensic Science
Limited to grades 9-12
Class fee: $75
Using a combination of lectures, small group activities, and digital/physical labs, students will learn about such topics as, what is forensic science, fiber analysis, fingerprinting, forensic anthropology, criminal psychology, and careers in forensics, among other things. *Disclaimer- this class will include some discussion of uncomfortable topics, presented in a scientific way, and can include forms of assault- discussed in a sensitive and respectful atmosphere. Sensitive lesson notice will be listed on the syllabus for parental awareness.
 
High School (9th to 12th Grade) Music History
Fee: $15
This class will teach students the characteristics of form and style of multiple types of music across the years.
Required Text: HarperCollins College Outline History of Western Music can be found on Amazon both new and used.

High School (9th – 12th Grade) – ACT Prep (Fall Semester)
Graduation Requirement Met: One Half (1/2) Credit Elective
Fees:  Once per Semester $65
Course Description: A broad topic course open to everyone intending to take the ACT or wanting a concise overview of high school math and English skills. Actual ACT tests will be given accompanied with test taking strategies, body-mind preparedness, and shortcuts for test success. We will cover each of the 5 categories: English, Math, Reading, Science, and Writing. There will be daily math practice and one take home test per week. An ACT approved calculator is helpful.
 
High School (9th – 12th Grade) - Health: The Wholesome Living Experience (Spring Semester)
Graduation Requirement Met: One Half (1/2) Credit Health and Wellbeing
Fees: One Time Fee $40
Course Description: This group class is offered in person only. This is a physically engaged participation as well as mindfully engaged class experience. We will be learning to play games and athletic body care.  Interspersed between fun games and activities designed for understanding body health are studies on nutrition and food choice that builds that body, techniques for mental and emotional wellbeing, inter and intra personal space, addressing dis-ease, creativity for healthy lifestyle, community and environmental health and even financial health. Each class will include physical activity for body health and participants will be extending their classroom learning to their overall lifestyle in various ways at times during the course of the semester.
 
High School (9th – 12th grade) – US History
Fee: $20
Students will need a personal email address and internet access to take this class. We will be studying the history of the United States using a variety of primary and secondary sources, readings, and online videos. There is no specific textbook to purchase. While we will meet in person on Thursdays at Co-op, students should be prepared to have some assignments due on Mondays and Thursdays.  
 
High School (8th-12th grade) – Psychology of Super-Heroes and Their Villains
Class fee- $30
Superman. Batman. Spider-man. Iron Man. The Hulk. Captain America.
You know their names.
But what you may not know is that in comics and on the big screen superheroes possess a complex psychology. Looking past their "Bam-Pow-Smack" of the comics we will look beyond their kid-friendly appeal, and find that superheroes possess a grittier, more complex interior.
As much as in comics as in real life, not everyone who experiences loss and trauma interprets it the same way. All superheroes—for all their strength and power—need an equally menacing foe, someone or something that presents a challenge. For Batman, it’s The Joker. For Superman, it’s Lex Luther. For Spider-Man, it’s Venom or the Green Goblin. The strange names aside, what comic book supervillains represent are individuals with poor coping mechanisms. Like many of their superhero counterparts, supervillains have experienced some trauma in their lives, but rather than channel that in to something positive and useful, they choose to “take it out on society.”
Join us as we explore the Good, Bad, and the Ugly of our favorite characters and what makes them tick. It may feel more familiar than you think!
 
(6-12th Grade) Debate Club
Class fee: $15
Please Note: This class will meet on full co-op days at the Methodist Church from 12:30-1:15. On High School only days, we will meet at the Hub.
Through the process of learning how to debate, students will learn the art of argument and how to identify logical fallacies. The goal is to participate in competitive debate with a scoring system. At the time of the printing of this schedule, there will also be a debate team in Winchester who we may have the opportunity to compete against.
